Earnings From YouTube Videos and Shorts

To start earning on YouTube, you first need to be a part of the YouTube Partner Program.  To get in, you need a thousand subscribers and 4000 watch hours or 10 million views on YouTube Shorts.

There are two terms in YouTube

    •  CPM
    •  RPM.

CPM is the cost paid by an advertiser for every 1000 plays. RPM is the cost paid by YouTube for every 1000 views your video gets, and it includes all revenue like ads, memberships or subscriptions. The revenue is split with YouTube keeping 45% and you getting 55%.

The average RPM for a long-form video is $3. Some creators make many and some make fewer based on niches. Compared to long videos, Shorts will reach soon. YouTube Shorts do not pay a lot of money, but you will get more subscribers and you will not get that many subscribers in other ways. Every ad view adds a little bit of money, and if a creator uses a copyrighted song, half of the short’s revenue will be deducted. YouTube takes 55% and you get 45% for shorts.
